Within the framework of its joint efforts to reinforce food security in KSA in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, the Agricultural Development Fund (ADF) held on Wednesday 12 Jumada Al-Akhira 1439AH a workshop in which several private sector companies participated. The workshop involved all the proposed funding mechanisms for Saudi agricultural investments abroad and the extent to which the required guarantees are provided. The workshop also addressed the means of protecting these Saudi investments in the hosting countries. The workshop also revealed the advancement achieved in implementing the agricultural investment strategy abroad.
The workshop involved discussing the challenges Saudi investments face abroad and the ways to overcome these challenges to ensure the success of these investments, in addition to supporting the local market with additional food products that aim to meet the needs of consumers. The workshop also discussed the guarantees necessary to reinforce the investors’ ability to meet their obligations towards the funding bodies that loan these projects, with ADF on the top of the list.
The strategy of agricultural investments abroad includes controls of funding these Saudi agricultural investments. The controls mainly aim to achieve national food and water security as well as maintain KSA's natural resources in accordance with the agricultural development strategy. The strategy also aims to stimulate and develop the Saudi private sector as well as raise its contribution to the national development, given then Saudi agricultural investment abroad is one of the main pillars of achieving the national food security strategy. The fund is taking clear steps towards developing the Saudi agricultural investment plan within the framework of the national transformation program, in order to achieve the goals of agricultural development and enhancing food and water security in KSA. The fund is expected to finish framing this strategy and its programs and controls during the first half of the current fiscal year.
