The ADF is working to instill the concepts of sustainable development in all its departments, plans and projects. Its renewed interest in sustainable development is one of its main objectives and basic initiatives which seek to invest renewable natural resources in a manner that does not lead to their deterioration, or diminishing their usefulness for future generations, while maintaining a stable balance of natural resources is invested in rational ways, and effective and safe methods at the same time.
In its work and activities, the Fund is based on two main principles, which are sustainable development and environmental conservation. The Fund seeks to achieve sustainability in its comprehensive sense in all its services and projects, always keeping in mind the application of sustainable development in its comprehensive sense. This is based on well-thought-out action plans through which there is a chance to benefit from all available resources without compromising the right of future generations to these resources. Additionally, the approach of the ADF is parallel to the successive development plans of KSA, as it seeks to achieve this development, which was expressed by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques during a speech at the opening session of a session of the Shura Council. It stated that the Kingdom's way to provide a good life for citizens is through comprehensive development which is sought to be achieved with the well-being of citizens in mind, hoping that they would be provided with housing, work, education, treatment and other services and facilities. "We will strive to combat poverty and pay attention to areas that have not yet received their share of development in accordance with well-developed development plans," he said.
The successful implementation of environmentally sustainable development outputs is important and requires high skills in the environmental management of agricultural projects. The unlimited support of our government to those responsible for the environment in the Kingdom has had a clear impact on achieving this, recognizing the importance of the environment and protecting it from pollution.
Agriculture and sustainable development:
Through the successive development plans, the agriculture sector witnessed a radical restructuring aimed at putting the sector on the path of sustainable development by subordinating agricultural development to water resources determinants to ensure the security of the Kingdom's vital resources, reaching the first strategic objective of achieving comprehensive and sustainable food security.
Within that framework, the ADF made a group of decisions that it adhered to implementing. They targeted the following:
- Encouraging the use of modern irrigation technologies to rationalize water consumption.
- Achieving sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources by 2030.
- Reducing per capita food waste, and reducing food losses in the production and supply phases, including post-harvest losses.
- Developing and improving the work and efficiency of the agricultural market and adopting measures to ensure the safe and timely delivery of commodities and their derivatives in addition to strengthening food reserves to reduce their price volatility.
- Working to implement and encourage a program to support Saudi investment in agricultural activities outside the Kingdom to enhance national food security and its role in economic, social and environmental development.
- Encouraging the production of crops of high water efficiency and maintaining the genetic variety of seeds and cultivated plants as well as the breeds of pets and the wild breeds relevant to them.
- Raising the level of agricultural support and guidance especially for small-scale farmers and ensuring their effectiveness, in addition supporting scientific research and sustainable development in agricultural fields and agricultural guidance services to enhance production capacity.
- Improving fisheries and working to achieve sustainable development of tanks and water traps.
The ADF continues its tasks and systematic programs in implementing national initiatives to deal with the current challenges, keeping its eyes the strategic objectives of sustainable development. It relies on advanced performance indicators in the process in order to develop sustainable and highly-efficient systems for plant, animal and fish production, seeking to increase the added value of the target products, in order to contribute to KSA's productive base, in accordance with the strategic 2020 National Transformation program.
